Team CSC Lost the National Jersey
[01.07 17:45] Team CSC Lost the National Jersey Team CSC did not succeed in defending the National Jersey, when the 2007 Danish National Road Race Championship took place in Roskilde this Sunday. In stead it was Team Odense Energi's Alex Rasmussen, who won the Championship, when the race ended in a bunch sprint. "There was a conflict of interests between the top teams and somehow during those final 15-20 kilometers Rasmussen ended up holding the long straw," said Team CSC's sports director Dan Frost after the race. Previously Team CSC had dominated the race according to plan and both Matti Breschel, Lars Bak, Anders Lund and Chris Anker Sørensen were in a 17-man strong break, which escaped early and for a long time looked like it would decide the race. "We were well represented in this group, but there appeared to be an ongoing power struggle between the riders from Team GLS and Designa Køkken, so when one team didn't wanna take a lead the other didn't either and in the end six or seven riders were just sitting there," explained Frost and continued: "Bak and Breschel managed to escape and create a new group with five other guys, which looked good for a while as well. But again there was disagreements and in the end Matti made an attempt with another guy, but at that point it was impossible for them to get a good sized gap, because the peloton was working hard, so Matti was caught with 10 kilometers to go, which turned out to be to Alex' advantage." Nicki Sørensen, Martin Pedersen and Allan Johansen was best for Team CSC in fourth, sixth and eight place. |
