Style of riding: Andy is a classical rider for the big tours but also have the ability to win one day classics. Despite his age Andy can lead and he is emerging to be the captain of the team.
Andy was born in Luxembourg as the youngest of three brothers. His brother Fränk is also a cyclist on Team Saxo Bank and father Johny himself a former professional cyclist.
Andy started late with cycling joining VC Roubaix cycling club in 2004. Cyrille Guimard spotted the young Schleck as a huge talent and compared him to Laurent Fignon. After winning Fléche du Sud at the age of 18, Bjarne Riis asked Fränk, already on Team CSC about his brother. These talks resulted in Andy started as a stagiaire for Team CSC in September 2004.
Andy made his Pro Tour debut at the age of 19 in the 2005 edition of Volta a Catalunya and won the national championship in individual time trial.
2006 saw Andy win the major mountain stage in the Sachsen Tour, followed by the final stage.
The big breakthrough for Andy came in the 2007 Giro d'Italia where he won the young rider classification and came second in the total classification.
In 2008 he won the young riders classification in the Tour de France and helped team mate Carlos Sastre win the Yellow Jersey.
2009 saw Andy winning the biggest victory of his career when crossing the finishing line of Liege-Bastogne-Liege as number one.
In the 2009 Tour de France Andy finished second overall just behind Alberto Contador and once again won the white jersey for best young rider.
