Team Saxo Bank’s Danish Mads Christensen has shown increasing form up to the Giro and has, for example, won the mountain jersey in the Basque Country Round. Therefore, the talented Danish rider looked forward to showing his good form on Danish soil during the Giro d’Italia, but was unlucky in the first 90 degree turn on the technically difficult part of the route where he crashed:
“I had a really good feeling before the start and was as switched on as never before. When driving the Giro in the home country, it does not get much bigger, so I was motivated to drive a result home in the top part of the standings. In the first 90 degree turn, I have so much speed on the bike that I crash.
Of course, I settle down and drive just after the finish line down to the bus, where our doctor examines me. I am tired after meeting the tarmac, but it is not going to matter to the rest of my participation.
Now I only look forward to the next few days in Denmark and especially on Monday, as we drive through my childhood town of Odder, ”
says the highly motivated Team Saxo Bank’s Mads Christensen.
Tomorrow, the 206 kilometer long second stage will be run with start and finish in Herning.
