The Dutch stage race, Ster ZLM Tour, ended today with a 163 kilometer long and flat stage from Schijndel to Boxtel, where an outbreak dominated the stage in the first place. But a mass sprint was in the air and shortly before the finish, the front team was caught and the sprinters run in position for the big blow.
Team Saxo Bank’s Juan Jose Haedo appears to have been misled for the time being, and he punctured this final stage with 5 kilometers to the finish line, in which Marcel Kittel (Argos-Shimano), in turn, won and won ahead of Mark Renshaw (Rabobank):
“The stage was pretty uneventful, and Team Sky was in control throughout the day to secure the driver’s shirt. Unfortunately for us, JJ (Haedo) punctured five kilometers again, and there his hopes for a stage victory ended. Johnny (Cantwell) and Kasper (Klostergaard) have run a great race, and the riders should now be ready for next week’s national championships, ”
said Sports Director Nick Gates after this final stage.
Mark Cavendish (Sky) won the race without taking a stage victory
